Many say they are not dedicated enough. Many say they are too distracted with the fortune and fame. Many say they are bored with the game, but say what you will about Venus and Serena Williams, they also look for good investments. Whether it is designer fashion or commercial endorsements, Venus and Serena have made very strategic decisions. The latest one is investing in the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins have a star-studded ownership line-up, headed by Venus and Serena, but also Gloria and Emilio Estefan (the first Cubans to have ownership stake in a NFL franchise), Jimmy Buffett, and Marc Anthony. Principal owner Stephen Ross brought in the celebrities after he completed a deal to buy the team from business guru H. Wayne Huizenga. The Williams sisters are the first African Americans to hold a stake in any NFL team. The Dolphins ownership adds a distinctive flair to sports, culture and entertainment–but it also represents a changed America, where men and women of Puerto Rican, Cuban, and African descent open doors that may have once been considered closed.
