“…we’ve lied about progress.”

Those are the words of BET’s Jeff Johnson. In attendance, with other African American leaders at the National Urban League’s annual conference, the State of Black America, Johnson voiced his frustrations. Johnson does not point the finger at one particular race, but implies that the progress WE envision that we’ve made is not the case. Professor Michael Eric Dyson echoed some of the same frustrations as Johnson, and noted that the “Beer Summit” superficially addressed the issues between minorities and the police. Dyson revealed that “the real problem is still on the streets where disproportionate numbers of Black and Latino men and women are subjected to arbitrary forms of police power.” To read more on the State of Black America, click here.
