Post-Beer Summit, and We’re…

President Obama and Vice President Biden attempted to demonstrate that they are just common folk, much like the rest of us. They attempted to illustrate that we can have a dialogue, even when we disagree over a nice cold one and a few peanuts, just like average, everyday folks. Following what has been dubbed the Beer Summit, we get a glimpse into four lives–a cop, a professor, a president, and a vice president–what an unlikely pair? Race in America continues to be a tenuous issue, a conversation that many try to avoid. Race in America is beyond jut Black and White, race in America is complicated and multifaceted. Race in America is beautiful, eclectic, and simply, that’s what makes America great–we are a diverse people from diverse cultures, and again, we live in a land of wonderful opportunities. CNN’s Black in America pointed to some of the struggles that remain for African Americans, and in October we will see life through the lens of Latinos. Again, there are so many stories, so many answers, but last’s week Beer Summit should be a lesson for us all–that we have more in common than we realize.
