The Air is Gone

In Uncategorized on July 6, 2009 at 8:00 am

Strictly from a selfish perspective–the past two weeks have not been good for me, in regards to my childhood idols. First, Michael, now Steve “Air” McNair. Again, we are left with questions and heartache. I remember as a child cheering until my cheeks were blue and black for the Steve “Air” McNair. Steve embodied everything Mississippi–the work ethic, the determination, the grit and eventual glory when many perhaps did not expect it. Steve’s on field iron man efforts won him high praises and esteem. Again, celebrities are human too, but because they are our idols, we sometimes put them on the pedestal of herodome. Though I may want to see Steve as an iron man, he was too a man with shortcomings and flaws. As of now, we do not know the circumstances surrounding the events that resulted in two people’s lives lost, but we know that the act was senseless. The Air is gone, but he left us with flair and style, and all too prematurely.
